Growing in Christ 🌱 Day 8: Nourished by the Word

But Jesus told him, ‘No! The Scriptures say, “People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” — Matthew 4:4 (NLT)

In this passage, Jesus responds to Satan’s temptation in the wilderness. After fasting for 40 days, He was hungry, yet He refused to turn stones into bread. Instead, He declared a greater truth: physical bread sustains the body, but God’s Word sustains the soul.

This verse shows us that Scripture is not optional—it is our daily nourishment. Just as we cannot live long without food, we cannot thrive spiritually without the Word of God. His Word strengthens us against temptation, guides our decisions, and anchors our faith.

Reflection

We often spend time feeding our bodies but neglect feeding our souls. Jesus reminds us that true life is found in God’s Word. When you read and meditate on Scripture, you are not just gaining knowledge—you are receiving spiritual nourishment that produces strength, wisdom, and peace.

The Holy Spirit makes the Word alive in us, teaching, correcting, and shaping us into the likeness of Christ (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

Today, make space not only for physical food but also for the Bread of Life. Let God’s Word fill and nourish you in every season.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that Your Word is life and strength to me. Help me hunger for Scripture more than anything else. Teach me to depend on every word that comes from You, so that I may be nourished and strengthened daily in my walk with Christ. Amen.
