But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. — Psalm 1:2–3 (NLT)
Psalm 1 paints a picture of the blessed life: a life rooted in God’s Word. Those who delight in Scripture and meditate on it continually are compared to a flourishing tree planted by streams of water. Their stability, fruitfulness, and endurance come not from themselves, but from their connection to God through His Word.
To “delight” in the Word means to treasure it, to find joy and life in it. Meditation is not emptying the mind but filling it with God’s truth, turning His promises and commands over in your heart until they shape your thoughts, attitudes, and actions.
Reflection
When you delight in God’s Word, it changes how you live. Like a tree that is nourished by water, you will remain steady through trials, fruitful in every season, and refreshed in spirit. The world promises satisfaction in many places, but only the Word of God brings lasting joy and prosperity that cannot fade.
The Holy Spirit helps us not only understand Scripture but also love it. He stirs our hearts with desire for God’s truth and empowers us to apply it daily.
Today, don’t just read the Bible—delight in it. Ask the Spirit to open your eyes to see God’s goodness in His Word and let that joy strengthen you.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your Word that brings life and joy to my soul. Teach me to delight in it daily and meditate on it with a heart of love. Plant me deeply in Your truth so that I may remain steadfast and fruitful in every season. Amen.
