Growing in Christ 🌱 Day 5: God’s Work in You

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.— Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

Paul writes these words with absolute confidence—not in human strength, but in the faithfulness of God. Salvation is entirely God’s work from beginning to end. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9), not by our works. The “good work” Paul speaks of is God’s saving work in Christ—the new life given to every believer.

But salvation does not end at the moment of belief. God continues His work through sanctification—the lifelong process of making us more like Jesus. The Holy Spirit works in our hearts, convicting us of sin, reshaping our desires, and producing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23).

This is why Paul says he is “certain.” God never abandons what He begins. Unlike us, who often quit or grow weary, God is faithful. He will complete His work until the day of Christ Jesus—that is, when Jesus returns and our salvation is brought to full completion in glory (Romans 8:29–30).

Living in this truth

To embrace this promise means:

  • Trusting God’s process, even when growth feels slow
  • Surrendering to the Spirit daily through obedience and prayer
  • Resting in the assurance that your salvation is secure in Christ

Christian growth is not about striving in our own strength, but yielding to the Spirit who works in us (Philippians 2:13). Our confidence does not come from ourselves, but from God, who is faithful to finish His work.

Paul wrote these words from prison, yet his faith remained unshaken. His confidence was rooted in God’s promises, not in circumstances. The Holy Spirit builds this same confidence in us today, teaching us to trust God’s faithfulness through every season.

Reflecting on God’s past faithfulness strengthens our hope for the future. The Spirit reminds us how God has sustained us before, encouraging us to rest in His unchanging love. This confidence enables us to face trials with joy, knowing that God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

Reflection

Today, take a moment to recall how God has shown His faithfulness in your life. Where has He carried you through? Where has He reminded you of His presence? Allow those memories to fuel your trust in His continued work.

Invite the Holy Spirit to fill you with peace as you surrender your growth and future into God’s hands. Remember, His promises never fail, and His love endures through every season.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that my salvation rests in Your hands, not mine. Help me to trust that You are faithfully shaping me into Christ’s likeness. I surrender to Your Spirit’s work in me. Keep me steadfast until the day Jesus returns. Amen.
