Scripture:
“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him. Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6–7 (NLT)
Meaning and Reflection
Paul reminds the believers in Colossae, and us today, that salvation begins with receiving Jesus not only as Savior but as Lord. He is not just a figure in history but the living Master of our lives. Accepting Christ is the beginning of the journey, not the end.
- “You must continue to follow Him”
Faith is not a one-time prayer. It is a daily walk with Jesus, learning from His Word, obeying His commands, and growing in relationship with Him. - “Let your roots grow down into Him”
Paul paints the picture of a tree with deep roots firmly anchored in rich soil. When our lives are rooted in Christ, not in emotions, culture, or human wisdom, we can stand strong when storms, doubts, and trials come. - “Let your lives be built on Him”
Just as a house must rest on a solid foundation, our lives must be built on Christ, the Rock (Matthew 7:24–25). Anything else such as success, money, or status is shaky ground that cannot last. - “Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught”
True growth takes time. As we consistently read, believe, and apply God’s Word, our faith deepens. A rooted faith will not be swayed by lies, worldly philosophies, or fear. - “And you will overflow with thankfulness”
A heart that abides in Christ naturally becomes thankful. Gratitude is the fruit of maturity, recognizing that every blessing, every breath, and every hope flows from Him.
Growing in Christ: Practical Steps for Today
- Start your day in the Word. Read a few verses and ask yourself, What does this teach me about Jesus?
- Pray honestly. Thank Him for saving you, and ask Him to strengthen your walk with Him today.
- Anchor your thoughts. When fear or doubt rises, remind yourself, My life is rooted in Christ, my firm foundation.
Express gratitude. Write down three things you are thankful for today.
Prayer for Today
Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me and calling me Your own. Help me to continue walking with You daily, not relying on my own strength but rooted in Your Word and truth. Let my life be built on You, my solid Rock, so that my faith grows strong and my heart overflows with thankfulness. Amen.
