Hebrews 13:14 “For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”
Growing up, I always thought I knew what it meant to be a Christian. I went to church, I believed in God, and I followed what I understood to be the “right way.” But if I’m honest, there were many seasons where I still felt empty—as though I had no real purpose.
I remember clearly how passionate I was about becoming a Radiographer. That dream lit something up inside of me. It gave me focus, excitement, and the hope of a future I could see and plan. But when I didn’t end up in that field, my heart broke in a quiet way. I felt like I lost the only thing I was passionate about. I didn’t want to try anything else. Nothing seemed to spark that same fire.
But God had other plans. And He always does.
In ways I didn’t expect, He began revealing another side of me—a creative, organized, systematic side. I found myself turning to journaling, creating, and designing. Slowly, I started to realize that these passions weren’t random or second-best. They were God-given gifts waiting for the right season to bloom.
Now, I find myself here—writing to you on a blog I created, sharing God’s Word, His grace, and His truth. What once felt like the end of a dream was actually the beginning of a calling.
Hebrews 13:14 reminds us of a beautiful, sometimes uncomfortable truth: “This world is not our permanent home.” For the believer, everything we see and feel here is temporary. The things that disappoint us, confuse us, or delay us—they are not the end of the story. We are citizens of another Kingdom.
We often place all our hope in what we can accomplish in this world. Careers, achievements, relationships—these things are not wrong, but they are not our final destination. When our plans fall apart or our paths shift, it is not a sign that we are failing. It might just be a sign that God is leading us somewhere eternal, unseen, and more aligned with His heavenly plan for us.
If you’ve ever felt like you missed it—like you lost your purpose or you don’t belong—I want to tell you this: You are not lost. You are being led. Even when you don’t understand the detour, God is shaping you for something that will outlast this world.
I never imagined that my unfulfilled desire to be a Radiographer would redirect me into something even more eternal. Now I get to speak into people’s hearts, to plant seeds of hope and truth, and to share the Word of God in a way that reaches beyond the temporary and into the eternal.
We are not home yet, friend. That longing you feel? That restlessness? It’s heaven calling. It’s eternity whispering to your soul.
Take a moment today to look beyond what you can see. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how even your disappointments might be divine redirection. Surrender the timeline of your life and trust that you are being prepared for a home you’ve never seen but were always made for.
Prayer:
Lord, remind me that this world is not my home. When I feel discouraged by delay or disappointment, lift my eyes to Your eternal promises. Help me walk faithfully even when I can’t see the whole picture. Thank You for the story You are writing in me. Let it always point to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
