Investing in Forever

Matthew 6 : 19 – 21  “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be”

There was a time I found myself exhausted from trying to keep up—with work, life, and what I thought success should look like. I poured myself into my job, gave my all, worked long hours, came home late, and still, I felt this lingering sense of emptiness. I believed that achieving success through hard work would fulfill me. But none of it satisfied.

Looking back, I see how subtly work became an idol in my life—something I gave my best time, energy, and focus to, even before Christ. I thought I was doing the right thing by being diligent, but I had missed what mattered most: eternal investment.

It wasn’t until my job shifted unexpectedly that I had time to reflect. That’s when I realized: I had given years of service and effort, but with no true return. My spirit was dry. My heart was distant from my first love—Jesus.

In that quiet season, God gently asked me, “What does it look like to build something that lasts?” And I began to understand that investing in Him, in people, and in purpose far outweighs earthly gain. Jesus calls us to invest not just in our careers or goals, but in our afterlife—where rewards are eternal.

In Matthew 6:19–21, Jesus gives us a radical but freeing perspective: don’t build your life around things that fade. The possessions, positions, and praise we chase on earth are all temporary. He invites us to store up treasures in heaven—acts of love, obedience, generosity, faithfulness, and truth.

Why? Because where your treasure is, your heart will be. And if your treasure is in heaven, your heart will be anchored there too.

Heavenly investments can’t be stolen, destroyed, or wasted. They’re forever.

Investing in forever doesn’t mean quitting your job or abandoning responsibilities. It means aligning them with Kingdom purpose:

  • Praying for a colleague instead of gossiping.

  • Choosing integrity over shortcuts.

  • Writing words of truth, even when no one applauds.

  • Saying yes to God’s assignments, even if they feel small.

Every act done in love, every seed of faith planted in obedience, builds something in heaven.

3 Ways to Invest in Eternity This Week:

  1. Start your day with Jesus. Give Him your first moments. Let the Word anchor your heart before the world claims your attention.

  2. Give quietly and joyfully. Support someone in need. Give your time, your encouragement, your help—without seeking recognition.

  3. Reflect and realign. Ask God: Where have I been storing my treasure? Invite Him to redirect your desires.

Prayer:

We all get distracted by the pressures of life. But today, Jesus is calling us back—to place our treasure, and our heart, in His eternal Kingdom.

Lord, help me to fix my eyes on what truly matters. When I’m tempted to chase what fades, remind me of Your eternal promises. Teach me to build what lasts, to love deeply, and to serve faithfully. May my heart be rooted in heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
