Homesick for Heaven – Living Beyond Earthly Life

2 Corinthians 4:18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

There’s been a quiet shift in my heart lately—one I didn’t expect, yet deeply recognize. I’m not overwhelmed or anxious. I’m not even discouraged. I’m simply… homesick. But not for a place I’ve been before. It’s for a place I’ve read about, longed for, and now feel pulled toward in a way I can’t explain.

Heaven.

I’ve been feeling it more and more—this holy ache. Not in a depressing or dark way, but in a peaceful, pure desire to be near the Lord. To sit with Him. To be fully in His presence, beyond the veil of this life. And while I know I’m called to live here with purpose, I’m beginning to understand that we are not called to live for here.

Lately, instead of seeking entertainment or distraction, I find myself drawn deeply to God’s Word. I study, I write, I listen to teachings, and I dive into books of the Bible that once felt intimidating—especially Revelation. Chapter 4 lit something within me. The way John describes the throne of God stirred a deep longing in my spirit. I want to be where He is.

And I find myself asking, in everything:

“Am I living for eternity—or just existing in the temporary?”

2 Corinthians 4:18 says it so clearly: “So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen…”

Because the truth is, everything around us is fading, but the unseen—the eternal—that’s what lasts. We weren’t made to build permanent homes in temporary places. The longing you and I feel? It’s our spirit remembering where it came from. It’s eternity whispering: “Fix your eyes higher.”

A Prayer to Live With Eternity in Mind:

“Lord, help me to fix my gaze on what is unseen. Let me not be caught up in the temporary trials and pleasures of this life, but in the everlasting joy of knowing You. Teach me to live every moment with Heaven in my heart. Let me prepare my life here for the glory to come. Amen.”

The world will tell you to chase success, fame, relationships, and money.

But Heaven calls for something different:

“Chase Me. Seek Me. Live for what lasts.”

Let us be people who don’t just believe in Heaven—but live like we’re on our way there.

Because we are. 💛
